This is the only way I use a sling, sits lower and less likely to get caught on over head branches. Niggeloh sling with just the webbing loop over barrel.
Here are today's results from "experiments".
The CZ 6.8 SPC is wearing one of the el-cheapo surplus slings (I think American, about $5), because it's 32mm wide I had to splash out and buy 1.25 sling swivels at a cost to the exchequer of $29 for two. A single strap but wide enough for a heavier rifle.
The Savage got the better deal, it's my current favorite rifle in 6mm ARC, 2870fps with 103s, over 1000 fpe at 400M. It's got a sling that can double up, as @mick duck pointed out, these have a nice advantage if you need both hands free for a really steep bit, or to open a gate etc. I already had the strap ( from some other project) and it's attached with a dyneema "soft shackle" which are on special at Cookes just now - $10

So, if we cut that bottom sling off about the bottom of your "knot" and stitched on a narrower loop out of 15mm webbing it would sit nicer and smaller. Still retain your double traps for those "oh shit" moments. Could do that really nice and neat.
Nice one @Tentman. I haven't read the whole thread, but this is how I've been running my sling for the last three or four years. Works well, keeps the rifle very low, lower than head height.

@Tentman now do a mock up of how the butt stock end will work
Just imagine you have no sling eye there and don't want to fit one because the rifle is 150 years old

Simplest is always best for me! Just had a very nice lunch with Christian and his wife (@Littlemorepork) and he sketched out a very nice design using leather.
This one laces round the barrel.
However being a cheap bastard I raced home and came up with this:
Not finished yet but will work very nicely, totally silent, and easy!
Foster, if I knew you would publish this drawing, I would have tried hard to make it look usable!
your version/idea is bang on!
