DPMS models seem to be favoured on the US forums.

DPMS gen 2 looks the best design of large frame AR but I struggle to call anything DPMS "nice"
How about importing it as a kit of parts? I mean $3K NZ looks expensive. I agee with Gimp, its one nice looking rifle, but DPMS reviews seem a little off shall we say, enough to point me at other makers.

Yeah Im doing the same for an AR15, later I'd like to consider an AR10 but not a $3k one.

I like Ruger so would go that way myself although I haven't seen one in the flesh but would have thought they'd piss all over the DPMS for no reason in particular...
DPMS do them in 260Rem too........
The ruger piston system seem to be OK, and a heap cheaper than the Sig.
Simple. You can collect parts as they arrive from customs at the airport once cleared. Once she is asleep (3am - 4am is always a good time) you can walk in with your head high. Assemble and hey presto you just saved some moneyQuote:

I've shot a JP 308 and that would be my pick but very very spendy. Fella whose gun I tried had a matche pair CTR-02 and LRp-07. Ouch
Not a problem, Brownells will handle it, they are doing a AR15 lower for me as we speak. Whether its stripped or complete you'll need a FFL as thats the serial'd part according to US law.Quote:

I assume an AR15s BCG is the action but they are mostly over $100US for good ones anyway.
We should have a sub 2k quality US 308 by the end of the year as a kit you assemble. Just sorting out the final component being the 308 buffer assembly. Pricing relies on no further reserve bank intervention with the NZ dollar.
The wording in the ITAR is 'barrels, cylinders, receivers (frames), or complete breech mechanisms'. A BCG would be a complete breech mechanism.
So its the 'lighter' 18" barrel version, and it still weighs nearly 10lb? I guess thats where all the pies went!Quote:

I've read that the Gen 3 Magpul .308 mags are not that flash, don't tend to work as well as Gen 2 or the DPMS factory mags, not just for DPMS LR308, by the Ruger SR762 as well.
