Springfield mod 86
Ok, I'm after some advice. Some bugger (not me) fitted a scope mounts onto this old .22. How can I go about filling them? Cold solder? I want to restore this to a nice condition one day so it would have to allow bluing to stick to it. Also the stock has a crack in the fore end and has also been pieced together (messy). God damn stock has been cut down too, so any replacement stocks out there? Also butt plate doesn't look original. Not much wrong, any advice help would be greatly appreciated.

I think you would have to fill with a bolt and file off or weld and file to get blue to stick .

Out with the mig welder fill and file, my (off the cuff) way of fixing it (everything)

You can get screws/bolts of the same thread, slightly 'crush' the thread to make it tight when screwing in, saw off the bolt/screw head 2mm above receiver and then carefully file flat, when blue'd it will not be noticeable.......
even 'super-glue the last 3 mm of thread, but screw it in fukin fast.....or you know what will happen!!!!
you can also 'countersink' the threaded hole in the receiver, screw in bolt/screw, cut off the bolt/screw about 3mm from the receiver, and with a 'ball peen hammer, peen the end 'flush' with the receiver and finish with a smooth/needle file!!!!
good luck with whatever method you choose!
