As it shows, its a Stevens Favorite firearm. Stevens appear to have begun 1864 and continued for the next 150 years as J Stevens & Co, J Stevens Arms &Tool, J Stevens Arms Company, and Stevens Arms. Bought by Savage around 1920 who still offer a budge line of rifles under Stevens name eg Stevens model 200 centrefires. The latter are Savage (110s etc) without some bells and whistles - fine shooters.

Stevens credited with developing the 22 round, and they made a hell of alot of shotguns - real agricultural old girls. I have one from 1930s and its an real old killer - very efficient! They also produced rifles in centrefire including early falling block models in a number of early US calibers.

Someone else will give you more precise info on your model (check serial no etc), and talk more about calibers. Very interesting old rifle..

It is a Stevens favorite definitionally came out as a rimfire and if modified to centerfire I would be interested in it for parts. These came in 22short...22long rifle...25rimfire...32rimfire..and 22WRF.

Thanks for correction Tedz - 25 and 32 cal variants still rimfire and not centrefire.

This would be a fun little rifle if converted to 22 Hornet - an old school bunny shooter but with legs.

I centre fired one 25 rimfire and used cut down 22hornet cases but would not recommend 22hornet conversion as even 25 & 32rimfires develop headspace problems over time. They have a fraction of the strength of rolling blocks. One falling block Stevens in 22WRF I had re chambered to 22 MAG gave problems.

Velocity is thrilling, but diameter does the real killing.
