Just to keep the motivation going, here is my Rossi .375 with DPT suppressor and Burris Fast Fire.

So this is the base rifle for the project, will add photos as I go. Not going to go quite as short as @Moa Hunter still want to retain the fore end.

mmm couldn't bring myself to fit a suppressor, silly me. How do you find the balance with it on? Weight? One of the things I really like about the Rossi's is how light and easy they are to carry. I think if I wanted to suppress one for myself I would get a Pomba too. What a great idea, another gun! Honeeyyyy...

I think the Pomba does suit the suppressor addition. Will watch your outcome with interest.

@mawzer308, a standard over barrel should fit easily after cutting the barrel 3 or 4". 15x1, 16x1 or 5/8-24 could be done , the latest being the most popular.

I'm a newish member of NZDA. Went to a Sika Seminar (brilliant). Afterwards I asked the presenter (30 yrs specializing in Sika) what his average shooting distance was. He said 80% taken between 15 and 35-50 metres. I said (very quietly) "so my 357 Rossi with iron sights would be ok"? He laughed and said "You've got it in one"

I have done little deer hunting, yet. I've certainly got more traditional "suitable" rifles. But thats not going to stop me taking the Pumas out. Probably the 44-40 first, but certainly the 357 will be a goer.

Yeah mate that's the plan, thinking of cutting back to 17, which removes 6 inches of barrel. Planning to get a DPT but would need to pick one up or get someone to drop it off as getting the paperwork done where I am is a PIA.

I recommend getting them to do the chop and thread. I had a 7x57 chopped and threaded in advance by my gunsmith, took it to DPT to have their can fitted, GS had got it wrong and had to chop that thread off and do it again. Least I had the barrel length to play with. DPT guys were great, what was meant to be a 20 min job they fitted into a busy morning and had me out of there in and hour and a half. Just make sure to book it in, and go read a book for an hour.

This is my setup haven't settled on a sight yet just using what I have, It is basically a test rig use a Leupold 12X most of the time
the scope in the picture is one I bough off Graham Champion, Japanese built for a Swedish company not bad but too bulky
have a Red Dot as well not much use as a test sight.
With all these single shot .44's around I might see if I can find a more Ballistic coefficient bullet.

the trick will be finding something good ballistically that will still expand.....and will ballistic form matter a hoot if subsonic??? or is a flying brick the same no matter its shape?

Not planing on sub use, not much point high B.C's are no benefit at 1000fps and the range is limited to 100 metres,
And .44's are not quiet well mine isn't Loaded 6 grains of Traill Boss with the 280 gr sounded like a STD velocity .22Rf
drop from 50m to 100m was 600 mm and accuracy was non existent ,
With the soft lead I use and a velocity over 1200 fps they will expand ok 1500fps is attainable with a 250 grain cast.

30 years ago, my go to load (from memory), was 18 grains Blue Dot behind a 180 grain projectile for 1800fps out of a Marlin lever. Killed well above the paper stat's.
