Do not get a prc if you do not reload. Factory ammo is lethargic
The 6.5 PRC factory ammo varies a lot, from lot to lot. I shot a 22" Tikka and Norma 143 Bondstrikes were a pitiful 2670 fps. A cobber has the identical rifle and got 2870 with one batch of Hornardy 140s, another box was way less . . .
What are these issues?
So far I’ve had nothing but good with Hornady ammo being within a few fps of box velocity.
Already said above but don't go short on a 6.5 PRC. I went to 20 inches with mine and the factory Norma ammo was doing 2520fps.
I reload for it now and am somewhere around 3000fps with the 143 ELD-X but it took a lot of mucking around to get there. If you want a short 6.5 get a creedmooore and be happy.
Short barreled magnums though, 300wsm you can't go wrong. Most 300wsm ammo is pretty fast from the factory and it's a very efficient cartridge. I load 208 ELDM for mine and they're doing a out 2750, 20 inch barrel.
Got offered a 300wsm tikka at a sharp price off this thread - so may go down that route again instead of the PRC.
Wonder how they go cut to 18” shooting the 165gr.
I run a tikka t3x 300wsm cut to 18”, had it up to 2850fps with 178eldm reloads and 3100 with 150gr ttsx but now just shoot factory 200gr Hornady precision hunter @ 2660fps. Might make a 200gr load one day but the factory ammo is super accurate, 6-700 yards is well doable.
All some pretty good feedback
This is what I needed up with:
Tikka t3x -300wsm cut to 19” - I couldn’t decide between 20” and 18 - so split the difference.
Leupold vx5 fire dot 3-15
Maniatis breaked suppressor
Mtn gear pic rail holding a linkgear QD bipod.
Has a vertical pistol grip and cheek riser too
If it shoots well and does what I feel it needs to ill spring for a carbon stock too.
Hopefully the breaked suppressor cuts recoil as a mate has a standard 24” with a standard type suppressor and that kicks pretty well!
