I think I have a 1/2"x20UNF thread on my current Gunworks suppressor. Its looks small. Would it be okay on a 308 bore?

Depends who you talk to.
Do it, if it shoots like shit it was to small. cut 3/4" off and make a bigger thread:D
I don't care about accuracy too much, or having to cut it shorter; I just don't want my face to be shredded.
It wont be the thread that lets go.
I doubt the suppressor will either. Its just a standard one with the stainless muzzle break.
See what it shoots like.
If you are worried or have a question give Gunworks a call :)
Whay has all this thread stuff only come up in the last few months? when there would have been hunderds an hunderds an still are (rifles) getting around with the standard old 1/2"x20tpi.....................
I've put several thousand rounds through a 30 06 with a 1/2" thread.Still going strong
You Know the answer Abe
that is what my 30-350Rem Mag had on it and it never let go with the two cans I had on it ......the second can didn't get too many rounds through it as it started to rattle.....and being the "Dan Bomb" model got put aside. Gont run that barrel anymore.
Thanks. As long as it doesnt blow up I'm happy. It just looks like a small thread on my 270 so my thinking was that it would be too thin on a 308 but it seems not.
Wildman,
There are no safety issues with the 1/2" UNF thread at all. If that is your only worry, go for it. There can be some accuracy issues on rifle barrels with residual stress left over from the button rifling process, but no problem on cut rifled or most hammer forged barrels. It depends on what your accuracy requirements for this rifle are. I've seen bore's open up by over a thou causing accuracy of 2 MOA or worse, but this won't matter on a bush rifle.
