Update: JP's email from above did not work, but got reply from from Oz. They asked me to send the scope to them, they forward it to Austria.
So sent the scope in February and just got back a quote for $247 repair costs as quote:
"After reviewing your case, we found that the reported issue is not covered under our warranty or goodwill policy.
The height adjustment is broken and needs to be repaired."

It looks that these repairs aren't free anymore... tough economy
