Have a chance to grab a T3 super light in 308 for $1200, he claims only 20 rounds down the tube.
Going back to basic setup, this would be my do it all rifle out to maybe 500. Like the fact that its almost a kg lighter than my last rifle but (no offense to tikka owners) for 900 bucks can get a new Ruger American .25 lbs heavier but should be accurate enough.
Have set up a RAR for a friend so I know it's budget but it was shooting good. Never had a T3 SL in my hands.
Is it worth 1200?

I've just paid 1200 for one in 6.5x55, nice weight and it shoots very well.

There are some "superlights" out there that are not factory superlights, guncity get them fluted in bulk (different fluting than the super light is the giveaway) by someone and then market them as "tikka finnlight" (wtf ???)
May not bother you but pay to check if you want a "factory" rifle.
The Tikkas never seem particularly good value for money to me, decent enough but you can buy rifles just as good for a fair bit less. Sure they're a practical reliable rifle, but some people talk them up like they're something special and the ones I've tried just weren't. Why spend $1600 on a Tikka when you can get (for example) a Savage with a nicer trigger, action and safety for hundreds less? (comparing new prices, the difference is probably bigger second hand)Quote:

I ve had Tikkas, Howa and a Savage. Why the Tikka ? Very good out of the box, accurate, smooth and well finished for the price point. Excellent re sale value and a shit load of after market bling if you want to look different.
Howa I thought were great but seemed a little rough in the bolt department, probably got better with rounds down the barrel.
Savage, shit stock ( have not tried Accustock version ) . People say they are ugly , i don't. Accutrigger has revolutionized the industry and cloned a lot of copy's and uped the bench mark. However I never found the two I had overly accurate. Not bad but never on the same level as the 4 Tikka's I have owned.
CZ in my opinion are the best value for money. No plastic, great accuracy with excellent finishing, plenty of history in the company and a firm that has moved with the times but not compromised their product , all for around the price of a new Tikka.
Worse thing about CZ is they have Kilwell as their agents in NZ,
Sorry, one other thing yes CZ have a real gritty action new, bloody horrible.
Ive always had Remingtons (Model 7's), until i purchased a 2nd hand Tikka M595 a couple of years ago, the action was silky smooth compared to the rem's, and hell did it shoot. Ive more recently purchased a T3 7mm08 which i intended to ream to a 284 win. I test fired it as a 7mm08, unreal accuracy. Had it re chambered to 284 win, and still awesome accuracy.
And silky smooth action, everything was well made, well finished and just nice (compared to the rem's). After liking the T3, i couldnt help myself when a near new T3 Super light came up for sale on here in 6.5 swede, it too shoots bloody well.
I still have my model 7's, but It goes without saying I am sold on the Tikkas, common yes, but i can see why they have become so popular, they are a nice piece of kit.
I'll add my 2c worth to this Tikka love-in and say I'm really happy with both mine (.308 & .222)
They slick up real quick though, it is widely accepted that they need a bit to smooth the phosphate finish.Quote:
