Thermal problem

My thermal isn't adjusting correctly or holding zero. Usually they are pretty solid because there is no mechanical workings inside of them.

I took it off the rifle and used a torque wrench. It was easy to unscrew the mounts and they were just 20 ft lb. Im sure they were 30 ft lb when I mounted it. Although it felt solid do you think 20 ft lb would have allowed movement?

20 seems low unless its a .22. but i dont think it would cause it to shift, i had a scope once i think it was a vortex crossfire or something else that had a spec of 18 inlbs and it held zero fine on a 223. i usually dont do less than 25.

It’s possible if the mounts are “ lower quality “ or poorly designed

30 - 35inch pounds has held a lot of scopes over the years.

What breed of thermal @Tahr I'm having a similar issue with a hicmicro atm

If it is significantly heavier than a normal scope, 20 ft lb might be a bit low.

The other test you can do is put a bit of rail in a vice, and mount the thermal on the rail. Then look through it preferably at things that are further away, while you check the adjustments and the tracking. This was how I diagnosed a NV scope that was playing up.

He could do that with it still on rifle too.... Those black n decker workmate/ job mate benches are very handy for this sort of thing.

Scope base mounting should be in inch-lbs, not foot lbs, BIG difference.
