    Thoughts on a rifle

How's things I have recently had to sell a few of my rifles due to needing money so have will have about a $900/$1000 max to get my self a new hunting rig I mostly bush hunt very rarely hunt tussock so looking on here and researching I've been considering these rifles
    Howa
    Ruger American or predator
Have been offered a ruger skeleton 243 for 750 with a bushnell banner
    What would you recommend?!

My Howa is great, just swap the mounts they come with for one piece Talley's, the barrels on the light side so it won't do long sessions at the range but sub MOA for under a grand including scope.

I've got an American in 270 and its a great accurate rifle. Have shot 12" plates at 620m with factory Hornady SST 130 Superformance. I polished the bolt to remove machine marks and can honestly say it is smoother to operate than the 2 Tikka T3's and rem 700 I have (believe it or not!). Good price, easy to use tang safety, adjustable trigger, 3 lug bolt (60deg?), very soft recoil pad and very light.

I know both the Ruger and the Howa and good hunting rifles, I've got several Howas myself so obviously to my mind it is the better. Also for your purpose, the factory 20" pencil barrel is handy in the tight bush, though I'm sure there is an Ruger that is offered in a carbine.

Hay mate had a few rugers with the skeleton stocks. Good sold a quite heavy and my two seem to shoot good with a about 1.5 groups with factory ammo. Also note some don't have swivel studs but can be fitted that scope you said will be ok but not that flashiest out so $750 if it's tidy seems about right.

No dislikes as such. The plastic stock feels cheap and does have some flex but its a great shooter and they seem to get good write-ups for what they cost. The rotary mag works really well also.

Marlin or Savage. Alternatively a .303 in good nick is an excellent option.
