    Tikka .223's

    Hi all,

How much of an issue is the short mag length of a T3 .223? What sort of accuracy are people getting with mag length loads?

I'm contemplating getting one and weighing up whether to get one and whether I'd have to change the mag to an aftermarket one.

    Cheers,
    Mike.

There are sweet - you'll want to get a bigger mag as the factory on is a tight 4 rds

I'll be playing with mine for accuracy in a weeks time when I get down to Nelson

only when I went to 69gr pills and up did I need to lengthen the mag and even then only a very small amount, could just run a dremel down the inside of front edge to achieve it.

I have a T3 308 that shoots better groups with a longer load. So what I did was cut out the rear section of the mag and replaced it with another piece of plastic, and file the bolt stop back a bit (the stop is hollow !!) it's not that hard to do. I can post a photo if you want. This will work with the 223 just as well, I also have a T3 223 but with the load I'm using haven't needed to do this mod to it.

I had a .308 as well except my bolt stop was solid. I got Nelson Collie to lengthen it and simply brought a long action mag so I could seat out projectiles. I don't really want to mess with the mag. If I could I'd buy a new mag but for the .223 there is nothing suitable unless you buy an aftermarket bottom metal and mag.
