Tikka 5 round magazines
4 or 5 rounds seems about right for a long day hunt, it gives me a bit of leeway if I screw up a shot. Putting all the rounds in a magazine seems like a simple carrying solution. Anyone use 5 round magazines for bush hunting? Does the magazine stick in your back when the rifle is slung, or does it get caught on stuff. Other thoughts?

I've got a 5 shot mag on my Tikka T3. I do find it sticks into my back a bit over my shoulder and its popped apart once or twice for some reason. Having said that, I'm still using it

it sticks out where you want to hold the rifle as well. My 5 rounder doesnt feed as nice either. Stick with the 3 and just have the other 2 in your pocket.

I carry my tikka one handed at times, it balances just right for horizontally holding the gun about where the mag is, having a longer mag will just make it impossible to carry this way. If you screw up a shot you still have two more in the standard mag, more than enough.

Thanks for the comments. A few good reasons to skip the 5 round mag.

Carry the rifle w the 3 shot mag. Keep a 5shot mag loaded up in your pocket if you’re really in the kinda situation where you might need more than 3 quick shots.

I had the T3 Varmint in .223. That’s a 6 round mag.
Absolutely dig in the back and was the centre of gravity when carrying by hand.
Effectively traded it in for a pristine Sako 75 in same calibre and mag capacity, but flush fit.

We use 6 round mag.[223] No issues. Always carry rifle in 1 hand. Never use a sling. Different strokes for different folks.
