Cheers all seems around a kg mate messaged me and a .224 18” blank tikka profile he had was 1050grams same weight as my flutted chambered 7mm 2b so not enough in it to warrant the slimmer barrel

Bro, you can save more weight in a bigger bore size than fluting depending on the bore. My #3 .358 barrel weighs bugger all. I can measure when I get home tomorrow if you want.

Dean Maisey has got a good write up on barrel fluteing on his website. I’m no expert but it made sense to me. Why flute a larger diameter barrel and introduce many sources of error ( depth of flutes) when you can just get a barrel made to the weight you want to start with?

Fluting may aid in cooling? More surface area to disipate heat

7mm Rem Mag standard profile no fluting 615mm - 1123g
300 Win Mag standard profile no fluting 565mm - 1014g

Both are threaded M15 and weighed with the factory thread protectors on them.

Lilja used to have a barrel weight calculator on their site. Was also able to calculate with flutes.
Used their calculator on several occassions before ordering their barrels.
