    Tikka mags

    Hey folks.

So I'm not a Tikka aficionado by any means but was wanting to ask for those who have.

Is it possible to modify the magazine on a Tikka t3 223 via removing the plastic at the end of the mag follower to fit 7mm08 rounds? And if so was it more hassle than what it's worth?

Or would it be easier to buy aftermarket magazines? Bear in mind my mate is still actively using the 223 and such needs to work in both his 7mm08 and 223.

The first feels like a good excuse on behalf of a mate to get dremel out and play Bubba with the magazine.

Cheers folks. Almost the silly season for yearlings so something to look forward to.

Pretty sure you're better off buying new mag. Reasonablely sure feed lips are tighter/narrower on 223 mag. Wouldn't think it would be worth the hassle.

Yep, and pretty sure there will be issues with the bolt stop on a .223 vs 7mm08. This will affect the bolts ability to pick up a 223 round when put into a 308 length magazine.

Sorry to hijac thread, is anyone with experience at modifying t3 mags able to let me know the best way? T3 223 mag but it seems limited in it's capacity to seat longer projectiles. I want to use the longer 69+ bullets

I just did one, effectively making a medium into a medium +. It’s not pretty but it works.

Disassemble the magazine: press down on the plastic follower and the front will pop up. Wiggle the follower and attached spring out through top of magazine.

Remove bottom of mag: I used a flat head screwdriver to pry the walls apart, releasing the bottom section.

Remove the rear plate: I just used a pair of pliers. Starting at the bottom of the mag snap it off piece by piece. It sounds crude but the side of mag and feed lips are much stronger than the plastic you pry away and won’t be effected.

Tidy up with a craft knife/file/dremel.

Create a new rear plate: I’m really sophisticated. I cut up an ice cream lid and superglued it in place of the original rear section. It’s shaped just big enough to let my rounds fit in the mag.

There is now a small gap between the follower and the rear of the mag but it doesn’t effect the operation.

    🤙

    Ps: bubba rules

You are brave to ask haha yep I’ll put one up.

The aim was to build the backer to a length that I wouldn’t have to modify the bolt stop. I must’ve gone a few thou too long so ended up having to grind the bolt stop so it would cycle reliably.
