But I did use the factory rings on my 7mm08 for about 5 years without any issues, just changed when I went to a 30mm scope tube

Sales staff, especially those who work for two well known retail chains. As a certain bloke once said, they chime like cuckoo clocks, "optilocks, optilocks".

Not the Talley lightweights as far as I know. Leupold make a good steel Sako ring mount in three heights in 1" and two in 30mm.

That’s why I grabbed the 9/10 condition stainless Tikka Optilocks for sale last week for $115 delivered.
    Welcome to Sako club.

Phil, I've only ever used Talley's on Tikka's and none so far have needed to be lapped. Interestingly, I read some time back, about a U.S. gunsmith who specialized in high accuracy firearm work, state that he'd never had to true up a Sako or Tikka action with the barrel whereas he had to so on almost all U.S. brand commercial rifles (not custom actions).

I've seen some shocking examples of Winchester and Remington rifles with out of alignment screw holes for mount bases too.

    Talleys are the go .
Im a believer in mounting the scope as low as possible and the ultra lows are the best/effective/cost option avaliable .
