    Timing an A2 Flash Hider

Hey guys has anyone done this before as today I went to put a bird-cage on my AR and it needed indexing approximately 180 degrees. I initially installed the crush washer the correct way and begun tightening, loosening, tightening, loosening the FH...

An hour in a half later I finally managed to index the middle port on the A2 FH but by crikey I had to torque that thing down, like I was muscling that thing on so hard I thought I was gonna break something... I'm hoping like hell I didn't ruin the barrel lol I must of torqued the FH 90-100ft/lbs...

    So:

    - Will having the FH on so tight effect accuracy when barrel heats up over prolonged use? No doubt the rifle will probably shoot a bit differently now...

    - Does any of this sound right? I wanna stress that I was trying to crush the washer, not stretch the threads on muzzle but no doubt that would of happened. Hence why I thought the tightening & loosening technique would of worked. Just didn't realize how frickin hard it was to do.

    - Has someone else done this & did you have a similar experience?

    Any help is much appreciated!

my understanding with crush washers is you do them up to a point and dont back them off- have only fitted a couple of a2's and its a 1 min job

When I fitted mine, with crush washer the FH indexed to 90o from where it needed to be. I looked up on the Tube for fitting and indexing and the video I found detailing the process had his in the same start position.

Only starting out in this AR bizzo but 180o seems excessive.

@res I'm not entirely sure but perhaps you were using a peel washer not a crush?

Cheers @Ryan I too thought 180 was a bit excessive. According to @300_BLK I should of probably used shims to help reduce the amount of indexing. Next time I will use shims...

Btw guys I dunno if people like having their names mentioned or find it a nuisance, but if it is I will stop lol
