    trap shotty

not in the buy/sell section as it's not a given yet so don't want to get anyone excited-call it checking the market and getting dialogue and the big search going.
Bro in law looking at an entry level shotgun for trap shooting with me.
He's had a couple of bills lately so slowed the search down a bit but somewhere in the 500-800 buck range.
Anyone have one or know of one in the Christchurch area coming up in the next month or so?

    Still got it?
Only thing is he's picked up a couple to try and some just don't feel right. That's the main reason I was asking about in the CHCH region. A big thing to do it from a ee way away, but certainly could still be considered.
A trap gun preferred otherwise we would have to do adjustments of sorts on a field gun, but haven't ruled it out.

No ajustments needed, I shoot the same with both trap and field guns, actually prefer the shorter barrels of the field gun.
Pattern the try guns ideally for dtl you want 60/40 for the pattern at 35 m ie 60% above aim point. Auto eject is optional and fixed chokes are fine pref full and 3/4 but 3/4 and 1/2 would do if your quick.
When I started trap I used my semi duck gun, then bought a lanber o/u ($300) to avoid the stares and muttering. Akkar trap and mirouku field now, the semi only gets out for gooses.

I'm the same-I could shoot with everything, (my only gun was a browning A5 pretty full choke, but occasionally used a good friends miroku u/o and l/h Remington semi).
My bro in law has only just started but even he has found some guns just don't feel right.
he didn't have a great start shooting but some friendly advice did help. I could always shoot ok but I use the force. I'm a crap coach.

Don't get a lightweight one for trap, I took @Spudattacks baikal to a shoot, did two rounds and shot 22-23 with it, had a well bruised shoulder though.

I've got a Akkar Trap gun now which I picked up for $1k, does the job well but I seem to shoot better with my father in laws Browning Citori 725 trap.

I used a cheap Lanber U/O (Mod/Full), at NSW Gun Club, back in the day.
Used to shoot 22-23/25 DTL regularly, off 15M.
A newbie with more money than knowledge, offered me a near new AUD20K Perazzi, with interchangeable chokes for my dunger.
He was shooting 15-16/25, with factory trap loads, and was desperate to improve.
I was too ethical (at the time), and set him straight.
Even gave him a bit of guidance - in swing, sight picture, trigger operation and stance - not that I was an 'expert'.
    Jeez, I was stupid eh.

Some good friends and relatives (younger than me ) either just missed out or shot for NZ juniors years ago. One in particular would see shooters, of all ages mind you, have a bad round and start playing with the adjustable stock etc to make things right. There was nothing different from the time before they smashed it but it had to be the shotgun, not them.
