    If the zoom ring feels tight you may need to lap the rings.

    I had a vortex 2 -7 mounted on a Rossi 270 and it was really tight on its little rail. I went to a M70 Winchester with a DNZ one piece mount and the problem disappeared

    So it could be rings out of alignment twisting the tube?
