my mate has one on his remington 7mm rem mag I had a few shots through it at 500 mts pretty good glass, my only complaint is the eye relief can be pretty fussy at full magnification compared to a Night Force or Leupold

I have a 4 x 16 x50 PST Viper and can see Gongs ( 14 inch ) out to 1000 odd yards so maybe that is all you need. The new Gen II Vipers are meant to be a lot better than PST but I find mine are fine . Also have a Viper HS 4x 16 x 44 on my 300 Win Mag and a 4x 16 x 42 HP Diamondback on my 7mm Mag. All do well when dialing and I find the glass is good even at last light within sensible ranges.

I agree with the eye box comment. My eyebox on my Gen1 PST is reasonable on 12-18x but above 20 it starts to get pretty tight. Not too much of an issue if you set the scope up properly though with a good cheek weld.

Yeah ive hit gongs to over 1200 yards with my HST 4-16 and PST 4-16 on my 7mm SAUM, can see them just fine. Deer to just under 1000. As far as the turrets go they have a nice positive feel and ive found them to dial very reliably and repeatably. They offer pretty good performance and value for the money. However Vortex has some very strong competitors now in the same price range. Have a look at Athlon Optics and Tract Optics. I will have a Athlon Ares BTR 4.5-27x50 in my hands in two weeks. HD Glass, FFP, Illuminated Ret, True hard zero stop, 25 moa per turn, 90 moa total elavation. Crazy features for the money. The RRP is $850US, i managed to find a US dealer that sold me one for $200US less than that. They are getting quite a following in States now, and getting some great reviews. Any other well establised brand would be charging $3k NZ for that feature set.

vortex scope are good mechanically, but the glass is only average. The PST gen I glass is particularly disappointing. Gen II glass is much better but their weight has also gone up ...31oz!
