I was having real trouble getting my Zeiss to focus - the cross hairs were fuzzy and it got to the point that sometimes there were two of them which made grouping a little challenging. I have had glasses since 12 yo and contact lenses since late teens so regularly got my eyes tested, told the optometrist the issue at the next appointment long storey short I had developed cataracts in both eyes. Thank goodness for health insurance as over $10K later I now have 20/15 vision in my right eye and 20/16 in my left - I can read the smallest line on their chart with my right one :) Of course now with amazing long range vision I can't read shit close up but after 40 + years of short sighted vision I really don't care and make do with $10 reading glasses from the super market.
Yes this can be an issue for VX5's that are non illuminated. My non-illuminated VX5 has got the same thing happening to it. I just contacted NZAsia today to sort it out. I'm sure it's not my eyes as my VX6 when compared side by side doesn't have that issue.
Yeah I had my non-illuminated vx5 repaired recently at the leupold shop in Ozzie. NZASIA were good to deal with, just took a couple months to get the scope back as freight got impacted by going into lockdown. Scope came back with crisp reticle and clean lenses, zero charge.

As above, I have had to return two non illuminated ones for fuzzy ret syndrome.
Bugger, looks like my fears are coming true. Ive definitely got them on mine. See if i can hold out (so long as it doesn't affect tracking or holding of zero) till post roar 2022:XD:
My virtually new VX5 3-15 firedot has the fuzz. I have only used it twice at the range since I bought it earlier this year. It was fine when I last looked through it and about 6 weeks later - fuzz.
I did have a VX5 2-10 non firedot that did the same thing as well, although not as bad.
Leupold need to get on top of this problem.

Need to get a recall underway I recon
Got my VX6HD sorted recently, but had to go back again 2 days later to sort out a a speck of something on an internal lens that they did not sort out the first time. Still waiting on that to arrive back in NZ.
In these days of short ammo /component supplies I'm just thankful I hadn't sighted in my rifle with the scope before noticing the issue. That rifle is now running a Swaro for the foreseeable future.
I've got a VX-5 with a black speck of something on an internal lens. Who are we sending these through these days? Back to a dealer like H&F or dealing with a rep locally?
@Makros I dropped mine back to H&F to send up to NZ-Asia Trading Co Ltd to sort out. Just make sure you write down what you want sorted and get that sent with the scope. When I got my scope sent away the first time the written description of what was needing attention from the H&F staff member really didn't help out. This is exactly the text that they sent off with the scope ( 'Fuzzy AND NOT IN FICUS SPECK IN ONE THE LENS')
When I sent it away again, I learnt my lesson and provided a written explanation of what needed sorted and also provided a diagram of where the speck was in relation to the crosshairs so it wouldn't be missed again.
Is this an issue with a certain batch or has it always been a thing? Kind of having second thoughts about buying one now.
It's an ongoing problem not specific to a certain batch.
