Waitaki Engineering Muzzlebrake/Suppressor combo, worth it?

I know that the Waitaki Engineering cans while heavy are pretty good at doing what they are supposed to and a good price.

My question is what your guys opinions are on the Muzzle Brake and Suppressor combo they have for $550. Does it work well? Or is it better to just get the normally threaded suppressor and a normal muzzle brake? I have a M/B on my AR atm but it's... shall we say "less than civilised" for anybody standing nearby and since I'm looking at a suppressor for hunting I thought this may be a good way of getting both and not having to keep unscrewing and the rescrewing both things.

Anybody got one?

Own one for 7.62 and .223

Work great and improved the accuracy of my rifles. Heavy, but good luck killing one (durable as f**k).

FYI no muzzle brake that works well will ever be civilized....:cool:

The suppressors work great and so does the brake.

Other options include ODL and ASE Bore-lock.

The good old trademe. Waitaki Engineering QD brake/suppressor .223 | Trade Me. I had a chat to them on the phone as well. Good blokes. Just wanted to get a second opinion on them.

@300BLK Haha this one apparently (NEA) is particularity nasty according to my mate. It's going on a 14.5" so the extra weight isn't as much of a concern as if it was on a 20" type DMR.

I couple of mates have the Waitaki on ARs and it's a great choice. The only point of getting the break\suppressor combo is if you want to use the break on it's own and I can't imagine ever doing that.

I was thinking for bush stuff it would be good for the shorter length of the 14.5" barrel and for service rifle stuff which I'm looking at getting into. For long range stuff I'd run the suppressor.

Why do you need a brake on a .223?

Haha given I'm used to shooting .308 or 7.62x39 I see your point. To be honest, it doesn't "need" it but since the barrel is threaded and there is the option seems like an option worth exploring.

We all think that before buying suppressors then just end up running them full time. 14.5 + suppressor is still going to be short and handy (my ar is 16 inch barrel + supresssor). You don't want to go deaf just because you are in the bush and short barreled ARs are LOUD even without a break. If you take the suppressor on and off then you will change your point of aim and then you need to much around adjusting your scope which leads to confusion and missing.

The biggest issue is heat generated by rapid shooting. Waitaki is about the best to handle that and you are unlikely to do a lot of shooting in the bush. This can be an issue when varmiting though. I just stop and eat lunch while the rabbits bounce around and the barrel cools.
