Very quick history lesson on the 318. Worked really well with the original 250gr bullets penetrative wise it would get used on things a bit bigger and nastier than it should've been. Or someone used the speedy 180gr on something that really needed the 250gr and wondered why it failed.
A 338-06 would be cool. Even the 338 federal doesn't go too bad

    The .318 Westley Richards is actually a .330 bore. IT's in between a 8x57 with a 220 grain bullet, or a .338-06.

The .318 was reasonably popular in New Zealand in the early days up to WW2 amongst the seriously minded trophy hunters that could afford to import a quality rifle. Major RE Wilson had one, Ej Herrick and Jack Forbes too. The 180 grain bullet was not highly regarded; the workhorse was the 250 grain RN bullet. It was the standard big game rifle for "everything" in the British Empire. (WDM Bell actually dropped his 7x57 and spent his last couple of years on elephant with a .318 WR, which he recommended in his books.)

I used mine (a Vickers) with 250 grain SP Kynoch ammo which I bought off the shelf at Turner & Le Brun in Colombo Street about 1971 (2 packets of 10). It sure tipped that old bull over! I foolishly sold the rifle to a visiting American hunter a couple of years later.

Cooch has a Vickers made .318. Who knows, it may be the same rifle!

@Joh Duxbury I checked with Cooch for you. He bought it from H&F Palmerston North. It came from Otaki - the son of the original owner sold it.

Cooch said registering it was interesting. They had the caliber listed but not in the make Vickers (just the .22 Vickers). They had the caliber in Wesley Richards so it went down as that.
Also, Cooch has a very good 7x57 BSA Viscount that he would sell if anyone is interested.

Something a little less exotic -

    Picked up a Mossberg Model 46B (b) .22lr . Made from 1947 - 49 , tube mag ( originally 15 rounds but now 10 because , well , we all know why ).

American walnut stock in a semi-military style. This is a full sized rifle , not a lightweight .

Originally came with a side mounted aperture sight ( I have the correct sight but not the mounting screws ) and also an interesting rear sight that has both vee-type open sights and a wee aperture that is changed by unscrewing the sight piece and inverting it for which ever style you want today. The front sight originally had a protective cover , and has three individual sight posts that are spring loaded and manually stood up suit your need . A standard post , a post with a ball on top , and an open aperture type post.

This rifle has been retro-fitted with a Weaver base and a Nikko-Stirling 4 x 32 scope that doesnt look out of place , and makes life easier for old eyes.

Very smooth bolt operation , and adjustable trigger , and the first production model to have the plastic trigger guard with integral finger grips.

Mossberg was a fairly progressive company , and made rifles to suit most budgets . The workmanship is very good , the finish on parts is excellant , and the bore and rifling is exceptional.

The only real bad feature is some previous owner has had the muzzle threaded for a suppressor , which wouldnt be so bad if it had a common thread size and pitch as I have a bunch of assorted thread caps - but not one that fits this thread.

Irons installed on my m70, shot down the farm and had a quick shot with it, few taps on the front blade insert and lines up not too bad at 100m once I got the hang of how my sight picture should look, can shoot my wee 4" gong pretty easily but only had 9 rounds with me so will have a better play with it once I have a bit more time up my sleeve.

My one, and my Rigby .275 wound up in Massachusetts. I hated parting with them, but the offer was far too good to refuse back in the late 1970's when my kids were at school and growing like weeds.

I'm sure it's been mentioned but, what calibre is the 70 @Ryan_Songhurst?
