    The Hunting and Fishing website has listings of all second hand rifles and guns at all of their outlet stores.
    It takes 43 muscle's to frown and 17 to smile, but only 3 for proper trigger pull.

    They come up on TM fairly regularly (and tend to be very slow sellers), just keep an eye out for them

    Other plan is to get in touch with your local club, there will be dozens of unused Target rifles sitting in cupboards for every one in frequent use - someome will be looking to sell but not quite have got round to it.

    @cyclist Ive been watching TM for some months nothing meets what Im looking for, but hopefully I'll get lucky. Also my club is in a buying mode they seems to want to buy any cg milleniums that come up, so Im competing against their cash pile!

    What are you after? New Grunig & Elmiger - 300m Match Rifle | Trade Me Not very "modern" perhaps but the base of a kick ass shooter, nice action, quality cut rifled barrel and they offer other barrels instead of that 14 twist. I would ring them up and offer quite a lot less for it though!

    Barnard based rifles come up every few months

    Dead eye dicks ususally has some target riflles lying around

    My real interest tends to 308 (its specific to long range but also a very general purpose round and, cheap). Class, well real competing is just too dollar intensive now and I just want to improve my shooting / have fun.

    I'd go plama if I could but say a Savage M12 is $3100 front sight $900 and rear peep sight $600, bye bye the best part of $5k, even with a second hand gun its close to $4k (about $2.5k plus sights). So I probably wont end up not doing palma. That leaves F - open and in that I could also pop furry things with the same gun

    Since my local 22 range is <5mins away and 22LR ammo is 9 to 18 cents Im looking for a good 22 first off but not a dedicated target gun. I dont want to compete just blow holes in things uh I mean practice ;] so say a Savage BTVSS mk2 or better...lots of choice from $800 to $1500 that looks reasonable and good enough.

    @cyclist at that cost I could get a M12 and get it re-barreled with a tru-flite!

    @bill999 thanks that looks a great suggestion. Triggered some googling and that looks a good possibility, low cost, good enough, 3 bold lug action as well. Ive set it in TM too see what comes up. Some of the "old" guys shoot a variety of similar weapons, Im going to take my notebook tomorrow and note what they use, set those on Trademe.
