What’s with the 3
Just a question type poll thread here.
I’ve noticed that a lot of new rifles are going to 3 round magazines.
Why?
Yes I know that there cheaper to make.
But for most hunters “I” feel they would rather have a 4 or 5 round magazine. Or am I wrong?
Bush hunting load one you have 2 left in reserve. Put the first shot a little far back and you need the 2nd which get blocked by a tree and now your down to your last. Or any other situation ie more animals etc.
So the question is would you rather a 4/5 magazine or would be happy with the 3?
Yes we can go for the upgrade but don’t you want first time buyers satisfaction?
Cheers S

I only ever hunt with one I think 2 is ample for my hunting I don’t have big goat shoot ups anymore

I like 5, always have , its my comfort zone
I could never understand why North Americans would go hunt woodland Grizzly etc with 338's with three rds when you could get 5 in a 9.3x62.

I have 3 in my rifles regardless of capacity. I've never used more than 2 on game. It maybe kinder on the mag spring and have 3 consecutive shots for old skool SOS.
-
I'm more than happy with 3 in a deer hunting rifle.

Having grown ups on old Sakos that carried 5 rounds I wasn’t keen on going to 3 when I got my first Tikka. That’s all different now and 3 is fine. I think if I was hunting dangerous game like @jakewire mentioned I would definitely be keen to go back to 5!

To me it is more about the size (width, flush fit) of the magazine than the round capacity. 3 gives a compact magazine I guess.
-
I always used to load 3 in the 30-30, but mostly take the single shot 308 now.
-
Mine could hold 5 however usually only out 2-3 in it any way.
-
3 in my A7 plenty in my opinion.

My favourite rifle is a single shot and when I finally put together "one rifle to rule them all", it'll also be a single shot. I have 3 and 5 round magazines on another rifle (bolt action) and choose which magazine I take based on circumstances.
-
Have both 3 and a bigger mag (not sure if it's 5 or 7) with the 223. Much prefer the 3 when looking for deer and the flush mag is much nicer to Carry. 3 just isn't enough when you find a mob of goats, easy enough to have a second mag in your pocket to swap out

3 in magazine makes 4...because you stalk/hunt with one up the spout....agree its probably a compact thing ,also the new fancypants cartridges are fat buggers, unless makers went to a straight stack jutting out magazine,it would be hard to fit in more.

Single stack mags are cheep and easy with the new wave of mag fed rifles. My ideal is still 5 with a floor plate. Mostly because it means I don’t need to carry extra In my pocket that rattle
