I like 2209 for anything over 130gr, 2208 for the lighter pills, can get my Scenar's going well with W760 also but have just stuck to the 2209 load as it's easier to get.

The barrel life of the 6.5L is very acceptable compared to many other chamberings. The general concensus is you can expect about 2500 rounds unless you run it really hot. One point worth remembering if you get one is the case can hide a lot of pressure. The small primer and thick base walls can handle a lot of pressure before the signs really show. Not smart ringing its neck with the cost of the brass.

Have to agree with KG on its marginal suitability for 140s- the boiler room is more suited to 130s or lighter. But it's a very efficient cartridge- mine with its 27" bbl drives the 123 Scenars at 2945 with just 38grs of 2208, and it's way off max. Those that insist on 140s tend to use 2209 (H4350).

    Yep,
    A 7x52mm pushes 140 grainers at 3200 fps easily, 3000fps with a 16 inch tube.

    16 inch

    Factory length in Kawekas

6.5x47L was developed by Lapua as a specialised 300m cartridge. One of their aims was to have a barrel life which exceeded the 6mmBR. The 6mmBR can be good for 3000+ b4 pristine accuracy drops. Re projectile choices - one of the best F Class shooters in NZ very successfully shot 139gr Scenars. I use 130gr Bergers max. I believe if you wish to drive 139/140gr in the Lapua you have chosen the wrong case. If wanting good to hottish 140gr performance that is the domain of the 6.5AI, 6.5/284 (along with their v short barrel live). My Lapua is throated for the 123gr Scenar. I have also successfully shot 123 A-Max which perform well but finally settled on 130gr Berger which is a v compromise. Best accuracy by far is with the 130gr Berger.

@6x47 as your monikar suggests, are you shooting a 6x47L?

    Have both

You could probably get 2800 with a 139 but that'd take something like a 30" bbl/warm load/ high energy powder

    Some good info http://www.accurateshooter.com/featured/65x47/

@6x47 I shouldn't be diverting this thread but I intend getting a 6mmBR barrel I have which is at 1/2 life taken up and re-chambered in 6-6.5x47L.
I have sufficient dies using my 6.5x47L dies to get going, although I have also acquired a Forster FLS die and have started forming some brass. What weight projectiles are u using and what sort of velocity?

If you've got a 6x47 body die, you don't need the Forster FL to take the parent down. Just a pass thru the body die then your main dies take over.

I'm currently loading 38.6 of 2209 behind the 105 Scenar at just on 3K. They easily go faster but seem most accurate there. As has been pointed out, a Dasher will basically do this. Seems you've got to go right up to the big boys, eg 6x284 to really better this.

Thanks for that. No 6x47 body die only a 6.5x47 BD and the rest of my 6.5 dies are Wilson. Picked up the FLS Forster off am mate. Not the sort of die I would normally own as everything else I load I use Redding BDs. Considered a Dasher but just wanted something for a bit of fun and have good quantity of 6.5x47L brass that I can convert. Plus access to a 6x47L reamer.
