At $100US a piece for a round of SLAP I'd put money on counterfeit rounds made as cheaply as possible.

Like in a TV series called Sledgehammer where it looks like the hero has to give up when he says to his partner..." There are 5 robbers, and I only have one round left in the gun.....I have to get them standing in a line...."

what I find puzzling.....surely if all things are equal...a sabotted round SHOULD have less pressure....afterall the payload is lighter than full diameter projectile, and plastic is softer than copper so should be easier to push down barrel.
will be good to see final guess as to what the actual heck happened...surely hope Scott has another couple of them rounds to be pulled apart.

[QUOTE=zimmer;1153618]It was actually 1000 yds although some reports say 2000 yds. At any rate, at 1000 yds you would think you would be safe.
There's a whole lot of stuff on Youtube showing blowups. A lot of blown revolvers.
Some events , you would have to question the competence of the operators.[/QUOTE
Been debunked, it’s a lot closer than a 1000 yards. Sub 200 by the looks. Pretty clever how they worked it out. https://youtu.be/h3OX28SVoog

There’s a lot more to come from this unfortunate story. All the interweb hypotheses are just a distraction. I’d be de-constructing those SLAP rounds with the iffy crimp as a priority (bet he’s already done that…).
