    What's this worth?

    Hey Fellas,

Just wondering whether this rig is worth anything? My father (now passed) bought this when he was a lad as first deer rifle. I remember firing it when I was a lad but it hasn't been fired in the last 20 years.

It's stamped as a Mark 3 SMLE made in 1916.

It's been sitting at the back of my gun cabinet for years - it caught my eye today when I was preparing another rifle for sale so I just thought I'd canvas some views to see whether it's old junk or whether it might it be worth something to a collector?

Not for sake yet - hence not in the buy-sell forum. Just keen for thoughts on value.

Cheers for reading this far!Name: IMG_4574.jpeg

$150-750 depending on how good it is and how much someone wants it......
one thing I can tell you FOR CERTAIN........ it was your Dads first rifle....if you sell it,you wont EVER get it back, and one day may well regret it.

The higher prices+ that MD quoted are for the original full wood versions. Yours has been 'sporterized' and is in the lower range of MDs price spectum.

Thanks for the thoughts gents. @Mauser308 - thanks for the intel about the likely providence of the rifle. Very interesting. Here's a pic of the stamp you referred to between the bolt rail and the safety catch. Name: IMG_4566.jpeg

The FTR means ‘Factory through repair’ as I understand, and means it was repaired in some way in 1953.

You depart with mighty boasts, but you come back having done little.
Sounds like a typical hunting trip !

Thanks for the intel @Frogfeatures. Apologies for the incorrect image @Mauser308 - I hadn't noticed any markings in that area until I looked more closely, but you're right, there's stampings on both sides of the bolt rail. Pic attached.

There's also a stamp on the safety so I took a pic of that too.

Thanks heaps for the intel. Learning a lot.

Thanks @Mauser308. It's pretty cool to be able to read so much into the history of the rifle more than 100 years on. I appreciate your help.
