    Winchester 94 deluxe short rifle

Lucky enough to get my hands on one of these 30-30s. Only 5 delivered into NZ I'm told. 3 of which made it into Southland. I'm a buy to use it kinda guy so I'm looking forward to getting it out on the hill and knocking over some meat for the freezer.

That's a lovely rifle! Will you annoy the purists by fitting a wee scope to it or are your eyes good enough to use the open sights? Are you going to load your own ammo for it or will it be factory only?

Looking forward to some stories about your freezer filling adventures.

Scope mounts bolt onto receiver so no drilling required, I have a .375 that is top eject and scope is fitted as said.

Will leave it open sights, keep it original. I've got plenty of factory ammo as I've got a JM Marlin 336 aswell.

Finally took the pretty boy out of the safe and into the hills last weekend, I'd put off using this rifle for 6-7 months then i just thought 'fuck it'. Dragged it out into the wet scrub chasing pigs around and shot a nice boar at the bail, then later in the day knocking over a red hind followed by a spiker in the native bush, pleased with how it preformed. I'd only fired 4 shots the previous day at 50 yards to test accuracy and it grouped very well. Good coat of wd-40 and she's back in the safe until the next adventure. Buy em to use em i guess!

There was another thread about this - I think with a Tikka, and it turned out the stickers are proven to increase accuracy. Dunno if I'd be taking it off... that good grouping might just go to shit, and might start missing stuff. It's a real dilemma!

Either way, bloody awesome that it's is seeing some action! It's an absolute beaut!

Excellent day out hunting - well done! Cheers for the update.

Do you hunt with just the one dog or are there others out of shot? Hunting with a dog is so good - about to go for a wander to look for pheasants with some mates and a dog. It's half the fun watching them do their thing.
