Woods 45 ACP Delisle Enfield Sporter

Hi folks, Im looking to get Mr Woods to do a sporter barrel version of the delisle action style enfield in 45ACP. Not with the supressor as we can't have them here.

I did quite a bit of research on the different Enfield/45 ACP projects in the world which range from poor to okay. The yanks do several kit types which have varying levels of success. Checking youtube vids there are a lot of converters out there very happy with their guns....despite the fact a lot of them have feeding and ejection hiccups...

Then I found out through one of our master gunsmiths in Australia Rolf Bachnick, that NZ has the best guy in the world at putting Delisles together.

If anyone has one, or any other type of 45 ACP bolt action firearm would be interesting in making contact.

Thanks gonetropo that is what I had heard. I also found it he is very busy and possibly retiring so I am glad I got hold of him. He is pretty busy this year but into the new year may be free for the project.

Rod Woods every time. The guy is a walking encyclopaedia regarding guns, and his DeLisle repro's are the best in the world. No reason you couldn't have one made with the full over barrel suppressor tube with no baffles, therefore not a suppressor. Be prepared to pay, be prepared to wait.

A very humble man who's workmanship is jaw dropping and has probably forgotten more about all things gun related than the rest of the forum knows put together.
I have had the privilege of spending some time with him and along with his firearms talent he is a very nice man and a top bloke.

Sorry Rod your too humble to blow your own trumpet but the praise is well deserved.

Sounds like Rod has the same reputation here as the smiths mentioned about him over our side.

Not sure about the exact delisle but he quoted about 2400 for the sporter. If he is on these forums, hope he doesnt mind me disclosing that information. The enfield conversions getting about in Aus, plus some of the SIA do it yourself conversion kits run $2200-3000 AUD and I dont think they are the level of Rods.

The original delisle action setup sets the barrel back into the action and shortens the bolt, using a custom 1911 style mag set up. Some of the kit versions use a big adpator piece to allow regular 1911 magazines to run. They leave the barrel in the normal position, so technically if you want to run them hot the barrel is fully supported by metal and you can make use of the 40-50kPsi action strength of the enfield. The downside is they dont look as nice(in my opinion) and going off youtube vids, fellas sometimes struggle to get them to feed and eject with the shorter round.

I'm much more keen on the original setup, and I'm not trying to hotrod a 45 acp anyway.

Edited to add a pic or two. The SIA kit style setup

    The original

yea there is a lot of work that goes into rods ones

they are nothing like the do it yourself ones prone to feeding issues, short cases are harder to get right than the longer ones especially with flat nose

ruger americans come in 450 bush master, have you thought of setting the barrel back and chambering it in 45apc?
or just running it as 450 and taking the extra for wapping things over when noise isnt an issue
the benifit of the ruger is the 1-16 twist barrel so should work with heavy subs well, and they are cheep

bill999 sorry I forgot where I left this thread. Regards 450 bushmaster its a big case, I was after less powder burnt. As to rechambering to 45 acp I dont know much about gunsmithing that level but know the complexity arises with getting the short case to work in magazines and I assume whether the bolt has rear locking lugs like the exmil donors? A little above my paygrade but I am thinking it won't come out any cheaper if it can be done?
