Have recently noticed alot of rifles that have what looks like camo fabric tape wrapped around the scope, barrel and can. Understand wrapping the can to reduce tinny sound when pushing through bush. What am I missing with wrapping the scope?

Protects against scratches, keeps resale value high.

Looks tacticool
Less reflection of sunlight... No real idea
Deer can't recognize anything wrapped in camo tape. They are very alert for scopes and barrels.......
Hides the Nik-Stirling or guncity names.
All my high use scopes are covered with it.
Best and cheapest thing I could find to protect them.
Has nothing to do with being tacti-cool at all. I just like looking after my gear.

The reason for the camo tape is so no animal you are hunting can see what you see through.
Fuck I hate camo tape, Easiest way to make your nice rifle look like a cheap bush whore :x_x:
You are missing nothing.
I understand wrapping scopes and suppressors, but the number of people who wrap their whole rifle makes my head spin. What is the point of floating a barrel if you then strap it down to the stock with shitty tape to make it look cool?
To those that use tape, do you take it off your scope/rifle/can after each trip? I'd be concerned that it was trapping moisture.
I just use the fabric tape that binds on itself. Same as the medical stuff. It is light, does not leave a residue and easy to remove and use again and again. Takes seconds to do.
I would only take it off if I got the scope wet or blood on it to clean.
All my scope turrets are marked from use. The tubes are perfect and unmarked.
It is a no brainer to me to protect them so cheaply.

Cheers for the replies.
I see why people do it but i have never been a fan myself. Think it looks crap and are you really that worried about re sale value for a few extra dollars? i tend to keep scopes and rifles for a long time if im happy with them so they are what they are. Kind of reminds me of buying a nice wooden stock, a real piece of art, then wrapping it up in camo tape to protect it from scratches....kind of defeats the purpose why you bought it for in the first place.
I don't give a rats about resale value and who cares what it looks like?
My rifle is 20 yrs old, shot hundreds of animals and targets and apart from the cosmetic appearance of the stock, it is in a genuine, mint condition.
Furthermore my rifle is a tool not a display piece. I don't walk around the scrub admiring it😆
All my scopes are detachable (I generally carry 2 scopes on every hunt)
They go on and off the rifle and are placed in and removed from my pack or daybag sometimes several times a trip.
Why not protect them from cosmetic or more serious damage.

It's all about protecting your investment.
I treat everything equal regardless of cost as I'm a tight arse and hate shelling out good money just to f@#k it over. Firearms are tools of my hobby and I never have to blame my tools if I miss coz I make sure they are kept in primo operating condition.
Wrap it cheap protection
I just slide a piece of bike inner-tube over each end - piece of black electrical tape to keep it in place. Seems to do the job.
Perhaps not that aesthetically appealing for other hunters - but neither am I.
not everyone buys a scope and keeps it forever, especially if your getting into something different you don't know, like longrange or whatever .. . the only way to try it to see if its a good fit for you is to buy it, sometimes you get it wrong and have to sell it to buy the next, hopefully this one ticks all the boxes. Sometimes you just want to upgrade . . . If its marked your not going to loose a few bucks, it will be hundreds of dollars, even with mint scopes the seller takes a massive hit if he's the original owner. Camo tape pays for itself 10 times over.
Don't lie all you guys want as much camo as you can get :P Who uses black tape?
You can get the black stuff.
I discovered that the powder residue from shotgun shells gets trapped in the tape and causes bad corrosion of left unnoticed....
If full camo tape cover is your idea of cool, better join Rev Rog's crew..
