    Ziess HD5 or.......

    Budget is $1500ish

Rifle is a R700 in .308, shortened and suppressed.
Main use is bush, slips, tramping, farm work etc. Occasional "pink mist" bunny popping.

    Looking at Zeiss HD5 2-10.
Any other suggestions in this price range?
Prefer simple recticles and light dialing duties.

The new vortex LH HD 2-10X40? I have the 3-15x42 and like it the G4 reticle was a concern for me as it looked a bit techy but now I am totally sold on it. The posts and dot really haul your eye into focus. A swaro Z3 3-10x42 if you could find one within your budget?

There are some leupold products that are actually ok, one is the VX6 2-12.
Other than that the Z3 or HD5 will keep your weight down and you'll still be able to see the animals through it.
I've had all three scopes on 308's and all have their strengths and I suppose weaknesses. I have a VX6 ATM.

Swaro Z3 gets my vote: lightweight & good light-gathering.

I have the zeiss, Swarovski and vx6 mentioned.

Zeiss is on a bloody heavy blaser
Swaro is on a bloody light 308
And vx6 is on a bloody light 7 R.E.M. Mag.

Pros to the zeiss are it has excellent turrets (if you get the exposed ones)
Cons are it's heavy for size

Swaro pros are it's very light and simple, excellent glass
Cons are probably not your best dialling option (I don't have the bt turret)

Vx6 pros are it's all round good at everything
Cons are it's not great at anything... (slightly heavy, not amazing glass, not great clicks)

Zeiss would be my pick for you, but you can't go wrong with any of the others

Played with some scopes today - preferred the Zeiss 3-15 over the 2-10. I've quite a dislike for what I call "fishbowl" at low magnification.

Bastard shop person handed me a 4-12 S&B. Did NOT want to give that back!

Also looked thru a Burris Fullfield II 3-9x40. Wasn't expecting great things, given that its a "cheap H&F package" scope.
Pleasantly surprised. Much better that anticipated.

Hoping to look thru a Z3 tomorrow

@Gibo. You have obviously been brainwashed by serial Bushnell hater @BRADS. I have an Elite 4200 2.5-10 and it is a BLOODY good scope for the money even if it doesn't have a flash Harry European name.

I don't really rate my 3-15x42 HD5 at higher magnification

Another vote for a Swarovski Z3. If you're not dialing or shooting long range, they're very practical.
