Haven't seen it concentrated like that before. Craig is using Hammer Hunters. I use them (HH) in 270wsm and .223 and the petal damage is more random but still nasty. The shank almost always passes through although I have recovered the odd shank.

The 124HH are a good bullet in a short barrel (20") 6.5PRC because their design lifts the speed - I had one and they went really well with Hammers but it didn't turn out a decent advantage over my 6.5x55 with ordinary 140's.

117 grn HH 270 wsm (3500fps) exit, and shank and petals from a different deer (sorry about the hijack Craig, but Im your bloody Father ):

It has everything to do with it, speeds kills quicker.
I'm a fan, I'm trying to get rid of my ammo to get the cases for reloading the 33gr hammers, can not wait.

My brain is turning to mush - it's a fallow doe! The muzzle velocity was 3160fps and the projectile is 6.5mm. Range was 140 metres so projectile was doing roughly 2825fps on impact. The shot was slightly uphill and I hit on the front edge of the shoulder so the chest isn't very wide. The deer did what any lung shot deer usually does and ran a few metres before the lights went out.

Aww this place does make me laugh

I'm not sure what video everyone else was watching but the footage I saw was of an average shot & a very average kill to be posting promoting what great bullets they are, The shot hit very low ( an inch or two either side & it would of been a clean miss ) no wonder it didn't go far, you blew a chunk outta it's leg.

I know Craig can shoot but that certainly wasn't his best effort & to me a great shot is a "BANG - FLOP" not an animal bolting out of view with a fucked wheel, but then I don't hunt or shoot 1% of the animals the NZHS forum experts do so what would I know hahahaha

I will await the incoming vollie of hate coming my way, but I just say it how I see it & the thing that really makes me giggle & cringe at the same time is this

If this was a post from a newbie hunter with a vid of their first "long range" kill ( instead of a regular poser / poster / loved forum family member in this section ) I would bet that nearly all the people that liked CC's original post, would rip the poor cunt a new one & go on about poor bullet, poor shot placement, verifying & testing on non live targets yadda yadda yadda

He's out hunting for the night so his Father will rush to his defence
I think it was the vapour trail that interested Craig the most with that shot. I know he wasn't overly wrapped by the low-ish shot and investigated when he got home. He found that he had not properly calibrated those coloured disks on the Swaro after he had taken the turret to bits.
He has good reason to talk the Hammers up based on his previous experience with them.

In any event, bang-flops are really the exception, not the rule, and mostly the result of high shoulder shots (in my experience). No matter what you hit them with.

Its likely me that will get torn the new AH now - from him for interfering.

dead deer yummy many years ago shooting full bore Roys Hill range Napier if one stood directly behind shooter on the 900 yard range ( .303 ) one could see a vapour trail going down the range to target - seemed to be doing quite a spiral but neat to watch

At long range you can almost always pick up a trace sitting directly behind and slightly above the shooter.

    Cheers for that Tahr

I'm still not sure why Craig posted it really & did he actually go in retrieve said "dead in 20 yard" Deer, thought he would of posted a pic of the carnage said amazing bullet made ?

But I will wait for him to respond once back in cyberland.

As for "Bang - Flops" like I said, I'm no hunting n killing expert by any means but of the few animals I have bowled over the years, the BF or animals that ya "sack on the spot" ones are the best & most rewarding plus I'm not really into setting up, videoing & posting stuff so don't post it up.
But I find a decent fit for purpose projectile & plenty of grunt work best, some may love shooting Reds with little bangers like a 223 but I'll take my 30-06 Terminator Imp max any day of the week.

This is not my to enter into, but I do note, Craig has said, "the recovery and walk back in the rain was not enjoyable"
So I take from that that he did not "shoot and scoot"

I’d say he posted it because that bullet trace is Super possibly generated from high humidity if it was about to rain, that or hammer bullets are actually wee rockets
Shut up, get out & start pushing!

Are we watching the same video here? Here's the frame immediately prior to impact and I've marked the bullet (trace) location with an arrow. Sure, a bit low - but what you've written seems a hell of an exaggeration?
