We set off around 5.30am to pick up the motorbike, i would of done it last night infact i tryed to do it last night but Malhunting Junior left the lights on in the truck so the battery was completely drained when i went to do it.
Bike on board we head down the road 20 minutes and we are at the gate of spot x for the day, a bit cloudy and cold but the forecast promised a great day and it was.
Motorbike loaded with 2 men and a dog we head down the road to get to the hunting spot for the day, on the way in we round a corner and there in front of us feeding up is a nice velvety stag of around 10 points, not a great spread but good length for the area i think, he lays a trail as soon as he works out whats going on.
Down the road a bit more and we park the bike up ready to start hunting, a slight deviation from the original plan we decide to walk down the road to a piece of newly felled pines, as we walk we cant help but notice all of the deer prints on the road looks like there has been allot of activity around here of late.
I mention to Scotty on approach that with all this sign there could be deer anywhere in the felled area and then as if on Que 2 deer come bursting out from the side of the road, the hind makes it safely to cover but the yearling is a bit slow on the uptake and cops a .243 slug in the back of the head right on the bush edge.

Cleaned up we then head down to the river which usually has something hanging around in it but not today, may of had something to do with the wind as there was plenty of sign about. We move around to a long scrubby valley which also had lots of sign but no animals seen, i did put one trail cam out at a crossing point to see what was in the area.
After 4 hours of walking around and back to the bike we then headed into the original spot we intended to hunt, whilst there was lots of sign in here also we didnt see any deer or pigs which was surprising as the place has been ripped up.
Then when we are on the last legs of the hunt Scotty who is further down the native than me lets off another round from the .243, i hear it and call him on the rino he confirms he has taken another hind.

It was mosing around in some bracken and alerted him by snapping a few branches so he lay in wait until he got a bead on her.
All in all a great day was had and we were home by 3pm for a change.
