4th hunt for 2014, The Good the bad the ugly!
It was a great morning slightly overcast but the sun was promised to shine and it did, we had spooked our first deer by 7am there wasn't much we could do about it as it was calm as and w had to walk down a loose gravel road so we gave the game away early on this one, such is life.
After some more walking and stalking we eventually find a very well used wallow and the ground around it is wet and dripping mud, perfect! So we split up and Scotty takes the hot trail and i continue through a heap of clearing trying to find a stag i found a few weeks ago but got the better of me. No such luck this tie as i seem to detour from the spot and end up in a completely different area than intended LOL.
Overlooking a big main gully i have a bit to eat and a rest but its not long before i hear the crack of Scottys .243, This is where the Rino's come in handy as i can instantly talk to him and ask how he went, his reply "Yep good just tracking it now" Sweet i reply ill be there soon your only 300m from me.
When i get there Scotty is still mulling around trying to find his stag, i walk down to him on the inside of a small gut and when we meet up i comment that it a nice head to, Scotty still hadn't found it but soon realized he was only a couple meters from it as i gladly pointed out. So this is the good!
The Bad.
We cart the stag out to a track and then walk around to the bike i start the bike back it out and off we go, we get 100m before it dies. Fuel or lack there of seems to be the issue i was sure i had enough for this trip but it seems i have been proven wrong this time. After some mucking with the reserve tank we set off on foot to a near by station to plead or case on what i thought would be some sympathetic ears but before we get there some pig dogs turn up closely followed by the owner of said dogs, this guy is good enough to let us drain a bit from his tank to get us underway again. Soon we are back at the bike and have put the fuel in and get it going, we are off to pick up the gear and the stag but the joy is short lived with several stops on the way as the fuel isnt flowing as good as it should, we eventually tip the bike on its side to move the fuel over to one side which works.
The Ugly.
Once we get going on the troublesome journey we have to go through a ditch and as soon as we get out of the ditch the fuel tank ruptures and lets all of our borrowed fuel go to ground, we are now fucked, dead in the water.
We know it is now a 5-6km walk back to the truck which is kind of heart breaking as we have just slogged it out for 15 to 18k through the day.
This hunt was the worst and the best i have had for some time but when we were driving that truck back to pick up the bike i said to Scotty " Lets never ever ever ever ever do this again because in my personal opinion this" and then Scotty jumped in and summed it up with a big "Sucked"
