    596 yard deer

I went for a hunt up in the Canterbury hills over the weekend, it was going to be 4 days but we cut it back to 2 days because of the weather.
We had only been walking for an hour and half and were about to turn off into the side stream we wanted to hunt when we decided to have a glass about.

Grant quite quickly saw a deer standing out in the open at 10am. It was 596 yards away so I started to get set up for the shot. While I was doing that Grant spotted another 3 hinds further up the scree slope.
I dialled in 9.2 MOA into the scope (there was no wind) and got ready to take the shot. I was using my Model 7 7 SAUM with 162 a-maxs. At the shot the deer reared and up and ran down hill, it's offside leg was broken.

After the shot the three other hinds moved off, and then a large 8-10 point stag appeared and followed them. He was 800 - 1000 yds away and moving so no shot was taken.

We headed up to find the hind, which got a bit confusing because another hind ran across in front of us, but she obviuosly wasn't hit and didn't offer a shot. We eventually found the hind after following the blood trail.
