    788 yd stag with 17hmr

Went for a hunt with sneeze, not much around but after a morning glassing a few spots we spotted a young stag high up a rocky face. He was heading back for the bush but chose to lay in the sun on a rocky outcrop.

We snuck as close as we could get which ended up being 788yds, it was made a little more difficult as the angle was 20 degrees up.

Next issue was the stag only had neck and head visible so we needed him to stand.

Sneeze did a few roars but I don't think he could hear them. Next was some shouting, stag would swivel his head and look our way but no standing up.

Video battery went flat and sneeze was whining about wanting porridge so we had to do something to end the stalemate. Sneeze grabbed his suppressed 17hmr and fired a round off 90 deg away from stag. He looked but never stood.

Dialing in 30moa and then 4 metres holdover Sneeze took a shot in the direction of the stag and let rip with the mighty 20 grainer.

Stag became a little more worried and stood to his feet slowly. That's when I chipped in with the 338edge and smashed him with the good old 300gn SMK.

Sneeze advised he dropped and rolled on the shot, tried to stand briefly but was out.

Back to camp for porridge then a 50 minute climb to the stag, a massive 6 pointer!

Sneeze shot it's retarded brother the previous evening

Overall great help from the wee 17hmr. Every deer hunter should have one
sneeze, Wildman, Nathan F and 16 others like this.
