Canada Hunting Season
I have just received a e-mail from my son (Deereman) and it was titled 1st Elk Down. It was shot on the property he works on by his work mate Bob. It's a cracker of a Bull measuring 51inches long by 33 inches wide.
Deereman was in close to two young Bulls yesterday but the herd Bull wouldn't leave safety of the trees, my son had his youngest son with him and he was lovin every minute of the action.
Looks as if my oldest grandson was with his Dad when Bob shot his Bull.... great experience for the young fella's.
Deereman will post when he figures out how to post pictures etc, at the moment it's hunting season so it's full on. I will pass on any pictures as they come to hand.Attachment 55562

Awesome......when can I come over?????. :ORLY:

That make a Ruahine deer look like a rabbit!
Except for Brads... :-)

Yeh they sure are big, Bob has shot several nice bulls since he has been there. The area produces a lot of nice Bulls each year, there is a limit on the size you can shoot and it must have at least on one side 6 points to be legal. It's not a good idea shooting an undersized bull ( fines, loss of licence, loss of firearms etc) Same with Mule deer minimum of 4 points on one side to be legal.

This is another Bull Bob shot back in 2007 the last year I was over there, this one was about 46 inches by 45 inches but those top fighting tynes are huge.Attachment 55570

Great pics, thanks for sharing them.
Funny how over there you can be fined, lose your license/firearms etc for killing the wrong animal yet in our country you can poison hundreds of deer of any age/gender/size (or other animals) and have the support of half the population.

Sure breed them big over there! Tourists are amazed there's no season, tags, restrictions on hunting here, we live in hunting paradise folks!
-
Yes we do live in a hunting paradise with animals available all year round but then we have to put up with the anti wild animal brigade that want them dead by any means possible. It is truly amazing to see the wildlife in places like Canada where game management has preserved the animals for future generations. What must be also recognised is that without management in Canada the populations would be wiped out quickly as man would over harvest and then there are the predators like Bear, Mountain Lions, Wolves, Coyotes that all want to eat. Then a super harsh winter could knock half the deer population in one go. Without management you wouldn't be seeing Big Bull Elk etc like Bob's one very often.

Deereman sent me another photo of a Bull he let go last weekend as it wasn't big enough for him. It was lacking a bit in the top tynes on the right side. A neighbour of his who has his Uncle up hunting found the same Bull and shot him. It's not to bad a Bull especially the lower tynes. Still a few weeks of Elk Season left.Attachment 56228

Deereman has just sent a few more pic's from the Elk season so far, one is of a bull there fencer shot the other day and the other is of a big Bull he is after, a 6x6 Long and wide. The photo was taken with a phone cam so isn't the best but it looks pretty good. Deereman was going to work and unarmed when he spotted it. so far the bull has eluded him but has come close with darkness being the enemy. He will be after it till the season closes.Attachment 56711Attachment 56712
