Character Sika
Had a choice few days last week chasing Sika. When is it not a choice time chasing Sika? Been a lot of hunters around since the end of lockdown but managed to spy a few animals none the less. Knocked over a young 6 at 440 yards on day one with my mate who then nailed a hind at 300 who hadn’t even moved from her bedding position after my shots!
Went solo the next couple of days and managed to lay eyes on a nice mature character 10 point stag. A solid hit in the shoulder with the 284 anchored him on the spot at 140yards. Very impressed with the all round performance of the 162 ELD-M so far. Pretty cool character trophy and a good one to remove for the herd I think. Saw a few younger animals for the rest of my hunting but nothing mature so knocked over a yearling on the last day for some extra kai.
Good times.

I like that character head, its a great trophy ! Do you think it had any red in it ? Reason I ask is the multi pointing that we see in Woburn Abbey deer comes from Sika blood introduced into the park, a mix of the two species resulting in unusual antler forms.
Have you joined up with NZ Defence Force - No.2 Haircut ?

Real character head for sure, with those palmated or mutli point tops. The dog looks well pleased too.

Fuck that's a funky head. Nice one

Cool trip Dylan, any day hunting Sika is a good one. Love the character stag too.

That is a choice looking stag alright, you tend to get a few malformed heads in the sika. Many years ago a late mate of mine shot a weird looking 4 pointer we named Pitch fork as the antlers were long and almost come together they also had a wicked twist to them.
You are right about taking it out of the herd but he probably has already spread his genes. Cool trip well done.

Did not know that Moose could swim that far:thumbsup: Looks like its that or crossed with a fallow:XD:
Cool head alright:)

I don't think it had any red in it, I'm no expert though so maybe. The palm is pretty interesting alright! Haha the No.2 haircut is another result of lockdown locks needing a trim. Thanks all

They have a red T sika Y on the skull......think its that way around.
On the front join in skull, if thats wrong then im sure someone will correct me:P @stagstalker

@Sideshow, other way around. T for sika. I always remembered this because I worked for a Japanese company named Tachikawa which starts with T.
The portion of skull between sika antlers typically has sutures that form a T shape with the bottom of the T leading up over the center of the forehead to branch into the T between the antler pedicles. A hybrid red x sika deer in contrast forms a Y shape. This is just one of the indicators that can be used to try and determine the makeup of sika/sika cross.
