Checked out a new spot for Easter

First I walked up a hill for an hour. Turned out I could have driven half of it, but its a few years since I was last there climbing and the track wasn't as rough as I remembered.

Then I tried to walk up this, which turned out to be a 1 in 1 slope through nasty ass matagouri scrub crap. It seemed like a good idea at the time.

After a couple of hours of horribleness and feeling my lack of fitness, I gave up and went back down it to follow a track up here.

Which seemed like it might have chamois potential, plus it wasn't too far off dark and I was sick of walking so I set up camp.

Next morning I crawled out of my tent, wandered up the valley a bit and bumped into a couple of other blokes who were heading right through, so I left the upper valley to them and had a nosey up the sides of the valley for the rest of the morning. Bit of sign around but only saw a couple of hares.

I had planned to stay up there another day and have more of a look around, but rain was closing in and my cooker had crapped out so laziness got the better of me and I just buggered off back down the valley that afternoon and went home for some fish n chips.

Good to go for a walk anyway, maybe I'll find some animals next time.

I have a mate that lives at Jacks Point and have been meaning to shoot down there for a look some time.

I've been meaning to do a trip into wye for sometime. Great fotos mate, I will have to get my a into g now after seeing those shots

Had a look at these photos.
I think my father has some photos he took shooting Wye creek or thereabouts in the early 60s.
Will catch up with him,check them out and if possible scan and post them.

Have got around to it.
Just took photos of photos in album.
May have to consider scanning negatives but would be a major as dad has been taking photos since 1952 or thereabouts.
These were taken when dad worked on Cone Peak station now called Kawarau Station.
Dad and my Uncle walked from Cone Peak to Wye Creek assume they got picked up at the bottom Wye Creek.
Have left mums titles in as they tell the story.
The deer caught in the snowgrass was a bit unlucky as he got a couple shots whacked at him before one got him.
Uncle was using .303 dad .22 Hornet.
