A couple of Sika and a missed Red

Last month or so has seen me out hunting on most weekends. On one hunt Nick.m and I went for a look in a new area we have been sussing out. After a long drive we got to where we wanted to be and went in to have a bit of a look around. We found some good area's with nice open bush with a bit of sign around. Around midday we were cruising down a spur and we spooked a group of deer. 3 ran across in front of us and I quietly mewed which stopped the last one so a quick shot at around 15m had it down for the count. Not an easy walk out but we made it out eventually (thanks for helping me carry it out ;D)

Next hunt was an after work mission which saw me and the dog headed for a spot I have for reds. We arrived at around 5.30 and over the next few hours we spooked about 5 deer. They seemed to be everywhere and we just kept bumping into them. Bella's nose was going into overdrive with the amount of scent around. At one point I was in a thick stand of bush an could hear rustling up ahead. I waited and eventually a red stag appeared about 30m away, I gave him a warning shot and that was the end of that ;D.

This afternoon I headed out for a quick walk with a cunning plan in mind. We saw 1 deer on the track not far from the car and I had it in the scope but it wouldn't stay still. On the walk to the area bella indicated a few times and as we were nearing our area she became very keen. We snuck ahead and came across a deer which bella pointed, but again this one was slowly moving between trees and I couldn't get a clean shot, then it disappeared into thin air. We snuck down and around the face a bit with Bella being very keen. We were standing on the edge of a big gut and a yearling strolls out on the opposite side about 30-40m away. Raised the gun and smoked it through the neck sending it crashing down. I sent Bella over to the deer and she was stoked. It had a really nice skin so I carried it out whole and on the walk out we saw another 2 deer. Not a bad afternoon at all.

    Good skills Luke
It takes 43 muscle's to frown and 17 to smile, but only 3 for proper trigger pull.
