    First deer for lady hunter

Got asked by a lady that had been hunting a couple of times with others and had no luck in shooting her first deer.
We started with a bit of paper shooting and sighting in her rifle as the last thing I wanted to do is spend hours tracking a wounded deer. I set her up behind my suppressed Rem mag and she hit gongs at 250 yards no problem. Her 243 on the other hand was a different story, so we had a shot at paper at 100.

First shot in the right, second shot after I wound it over a bit after that I wound it up a bit and she hit the 250yd gong no worries.

Last night we went for a hunt into DOC land I said there’s no promises we will even see a deer but conditions were good. No wind for a change and nice and warm.
We parked my Suzuki and headed off to a spot I know pretty well down a cut track. A bit of mucking around trying to find the start of it but down we went to sit on the top of a slip. I was moving around to get a better view and broke a stick, next minute she is pointing down the slip whispering deer. I said shoot it but it was on the move and no chance of a shot. I settled in behind the binos and in no time saw a spiker at over 500yds so we watched him for a while before a saw a yearling down in the creek. I then caught some movement down on the left hand side of the slip, a spiker and a yearling hind. 197yds beauty, got her all set up behind her rifle and said there is no hurry, take your time and just squeeze the trigger. The mighty 243 went pop and I followed up with a shot. After a scrabble down the loose gravel on the slip we saw a deer standing out on the next slip. I decided to shoot it. We Carry on down to found a very dead spiker with two holes. High fives as she had just shot her first deer, followed by a few photos.

As you can see she is pretty happy.

Then the hard work begins getting two deer up the slip and back to the vehicle.
I got home at 11.50 pretty much buggered. Full credit to her she carried her deer the whole way without complaints and from the text this morning she is happy but has a few bumps and bruises.
