First walk with the new rig.

Managed to get out for a couple of days with the dog and my new gun.
Was busier than I anticipated, saw 3 hunters on the way in. That all had dogs with tracking collars but they were indicator dogs? Seemed a bit odd.
Got to my campsite just before dark so had an early night. Got up next morning, not particularly early and headed out. Jed was working well, except for walking past one
    .
He must have been a bit rusty.
Anyhow, I keep following the dog. At one point he stopped dead in his tracks on the edge of a clearing. Usually he walks straight out onto them so that was good.
He was still motionless as I crept up behind him so I was confident he was on to a deer.
Sure enough, there was one on the other side of the clearing. Up with the gun and bang.
The deer ran off but I knew I had hit it well.
I called the dog in and waited a bit. As I moved out onto the clearing I could see the deer off to my right I shot it again just to make sure.
    Result!
First deer in a while and first for the red dot.
I shot a hare with it when I was was sighting it in so must be a lucky Gun.

What cal did you hit it with ? . Was interesting today I shot a large red hind with the 22-250 at 250y I heard the bullet hit but was at odds looking at the 2 deer just walk of got 30 meters, they stopped looking back in my direction as though nothing was wrong , few seconds later she got the wobbles and fell over stone dead , I’d not seen it play out quite like that before aside from bow shot animals.

Good stuff. Can't wait to get out with my new Bergara. I will soon discover whether 300BLK was a mistake!

It's an Aimpoint H1. So far so good. Makes the rifle so easy to carry with no scope.

    Good stuff.
It takes 43 muscle's to frown and 17 to smile, but only 3 for proper trigger pull.

I’ve got a 300BLK, when using subs, just be aware of their limitations at distance and on bigger animals. You’ll certainly enjoy the light recoil and quieter pop. :-)

It's for Northland bush goats, so it'll probably be a 25m gun. Only plan to use subs at the moment, but got a family holiday in the CNI planned, so may get zeroed with some supersonic rounds for that trip. The takedown format of the rifle is going to make me feel a lot less conspicuous walking through hotel lobbies.

I really like mine. Such a handy rifle to carry. 44 is even smaller I believe.

    Good one
    Go the Jed dog
That rifle looks like a handy set up. I've been thinking about one of them myself, but would probably put a 2-7 scope on it since I really need the magnification with my semi bung eyes.

Don't know yet, haven't used it. Heavy, feels solid and well made.
