    Kids first target shoot

So shortly after I brought home a new H&R single shot .223 my kids quickly adopted the rifle as "their gun". (God knows what they have told their teachers!)

In any case I said we would go out sometime soon and shoot some targets. This resulted in hearing the same line everyday last week "Oh Daddy I can't wait to go shooting at poppas". So last weekend we made it happen. The kids kicked into gear after I explained we needed a couple of targets to shoot at. Using their own ideas this is what they came up with:

I set them up at 25 yards and using some Sub-sonic .223 rounds I gave them there first shots. (After I checked everything with one shot first)
Kids got all safety geared, glasses and earmuffs (Spot the townie kids, earmuffs on backwards )

Jess (7) was first and she got into position.

I think she missed the first shot and the second shot (with a bit of extra steadying from Daddys hand) hit a bulls eye!

So Brady had a crack and got on target also

    Next was the deer target.

Jess did pretty well almost hitting two head shots

Then Brady hit a dead centre on the Deer. When we go up there he exclaimed "Look I got it right in the heart."

Kiwi Greg, R93 and Dougie like this.
Being over gunned is under rated.

Love it! My kids like shooting my NEF 17HMR. I find balloons really good targets, they can instantly see if they hit, clay pigeons are also good. (lying against a bank obviously not thrown)

    Brilliant. Marksmen in the making
It takes 43 muscle's to frown and 17 to smile, but only 3 for proper trigger pull.
What more do we need? If we are above ground and breathing the rest is up to us!
Rule 1: Treat every firearm as loaded
Rule 2: Always point firearms in a safe direction
Rule 3: Load a firearm only when ready to fire
Rule 4: Identify your target beyond all doubt
Rule 5: Check your firing zone
Rule 6: Store firearms and ammunition safely
Rule 7: Avoid alcohol and drugs when handling firearms

Good stuff Vapor my kids love having a go with the pee rifle but dont think they quite get the concept of aiming yet. Dont have a in between rifle for them but no doubt I will have to get one soon.
