Meat for the freezer
With our Son (Deereman) and families visit from Canada closing in fast I needed to refill the freezer. Last weekend I managed to get a crack at a nice hind at 387 yards with my Tikka 300 Win Mag and Viper HS. It her a bit far back and she managed about 100 yards on a downhill run. My brother-in law had a good afternoon as well knocking over a 90 odd pound Boar.
This Saturday I managed another big Hind at 210 yards, this old girl went straight down. This animal I have swapped for a hogget for the BBQ when the son's over as he is quite keen on tasty mutton.
Today I spent a fair bit of it turning all the muscle groups into steak off last weekends hind and cooking up a feed tonight. Venison back and fillet steak, mashed spud, cauliflower and Broccoli, with a little cheese sauce. Very tender and tasty.Attachment 58537Attachment 58538Attachment 58539
The Son will be here in about 14 days so we will be busy hunting and fishing and doing a few touristy type things can't wait should be a lot of fun.

steaks look good have you dusted them in flour ?

Marinate in mild mustard and garlic, add an egg and stir well then bread crumb and pan fry in oil, don't over do, just till blood comes through then turn. So long as the meat has matured 5-7 days and you get most of the gristle off it is very tender and tasty.

Nice. Enjoy having your family together.

Yes it's hard to beat a nice feed of venison especially tender venison. I thought I would add this picture to, I took it just after shooting the deer on Saturday. A shower of rain came through then the sun came out and created a double rainbow, Attachment 58586pretty cool I thought

Did you go and look for the pots of gold?

Maybe I struck gold getting the deer that evening.
