    My daughter first buck

As some of you have seen I have a daughter who's a mad keen hunter.
She started much earlier than I intended after coming along on many of my hints. Then spent the time needed practising with a rifle I set up and made to fit her(thanks again vietnamcam for the stock).

She's been involved in catching some good boars, shot a fair few goats, a few fallow and in Jan she got her first sika.
I am, however, very wary of making things too easy due to my experience or letting her shot something that is a big jump forward. She keeps pestering me for when she could shoot a stag or if she can go on a roar trip. Sorry bud but that's dad's time off the year.

Recently I've been hearing alot about how I've not been getting her out while I just spent two weeks in Stewart island and before that 2 weeks in the roar in the Raukumaras.
Yeah I was starting to feel a little guilty.
So with the school hols started and after she's put a huge effort in for her scho work and sports, I offered to take her down for a fallow hunt.

First morning, up at 530 and out the door. We spot a small mob and do the sneak. A second small mob wind us in the distance but a spooning out of sight so all goes well. She sets up and drops her chosen on on the spot.

We have abut of fun as the rest are unsure where it came from and spook right too us.
On reaching the animal it turns out she's shot her first buck. A tasty little yearling.

I whip it into a back pack and my little legend heads off down the hill. I have to help over a plugged swampy area but she carries it all the way to the farmhouse and the cocky gives her deserving praise. She's rightly very proud of herself.
We spend the morning horse riding. Then at lunch she asks if we can gets some goats. She wants to run the stalk which so a laugh as she has me crawling under fences and crossing them multiple times. We sneak past lobs she doesn't want til we find the 'right' one. As she's about to shoot a Billy appears on three legs and she tells me she needs to put him out of his misery. She knocks him over and then a second little one she reckons will be a good eater.

Back to base. A relax. The late evening she report that she's spotted a deer up the back of the farm in the binocs.
Whilst I'm ready to kick the legs up for a rest. She's told she should got get it so again off we go. This stalk turn pretty intense with a mob of 30 goats getting in our way then breaking. Then a second just as we get to the location. As we crest the rise to our shooting spot, they spook a does who come charging out from below racing all over the show. It spooks others and the whole things is rapidly turning to sh!t.
I tell her to shoot the buck and leave her to it.
Let's just say there's a bit of drama due to a fence wire touching the barrel so it took a couple of shots.
Either way, she got her first real buck. She wouldn't be carrying this one down. Name: IMG_20250921_172815.jpg

Fantastic. I love seeing the young and keen getting into hunting. And, more ladies in hunting is a good thing too.
    Kudos to your daughter.
