    No such thing as overkill

What better way to start the year than chasing public land deer in NZ. I decided to take my recently acquired Mauser 404 Jeffery and see if I could get a deer. Didn't take long until a Fallow pricket was spotted and the stalk was on through the native bush and scrub. Soon enough Zoe the dog and I were in position at 50m and 400gr woodleigh was on its way, a huge blood trail and short track lead us to a prime eating animal. Conditions were perfect so we pressed on in search of another. It wasn't long until a Red hind and Spiker were spotted, after watching the hind for some time I decided to take her, needless to say she dropped on the spot. She was barren, no milk in the udder and also in great condition. The pack was rather heavy with the boned out venison and we managed to bump into another Red spiker on the way out so I took a video and couple of pictures before carrying on. A very satisfying trip with the new rifle.

Well done. I bet they weren't prone shots

Restraint is the better part of dignity. Don't justify getting even. Do not do unto others as they do unto you if it will cause harm.

No both standing, I've done some development on the bench which is tolerable, prone is very noticeable shall we say.

I for one take my hat off to you just for carrying it :
I did have a culler once tell me that I "must be thick in the arm and thick in the head' referring to a rifle I was carrying at the time

Zeroing my 450 Rigby prone this weekend, loading the bullets this arvo I could hear my shoulder saying WTF......

Don't generally feel recoil when shooting at an animal, unless the scope touches you

Dead is dead, doesn’t matter to much what you use. Nice load of venison for the rifles first outing.

If that rifle had a name, it would be "The End"

After reading this thread I think I might get the 1908 Mauser Model B in 10.75 x 68 out of the safe and take it for a walk......
