Dragged myself out of bed this morning for a hunt. I haven't been for a decent deer hunt in quite some time due to various things and I always find it a bit of a challenge to get back into it, anyway.... Drive, walk, glass = two deer spotted in between shifting clag. No wind, 389m, 20 degrees, 2.3mil and we're away.
First shot felt good but the animal disappeared from view. Next minute I spot two deer right next to where my target was just standing.
' Bugger ' I thought, ' must have missed, I've only seen two deer of this face, and both those two look healthy '. So I took aim at the yearling and with the second shot of the day she toppled over. 'Hmm did I get the first one as well?'
After a tight steep trip to the general area where I thought my targets were, the dog was sent off to earn his dinner. Upon hearing the familiar sounds of my gsp busily plucking a deer I made my way over to find that this must be the first animal I shot as I could see the second dead from my vantage... 'Oh dear looks like I'm in for a big carry today...'

Second.
Both animals seemed to me to be heavily moulting, guess it's that time of year.
