Yep was up there last year and would love to sit on top of the light house and pick a few off. Walk down the track to the rocks/penguins and the ground looks like its moving. Causing alot of damage

Apart from a few pockets there are bugger all rabbits on the west coast.
They are still rabbits where they used to be but they never seem to build up.
Used to be able to go thru 150 22 rounds for a couple hours walk along some local river beds.
Not sure what is keeping them in check.
People say it is the virus repeating. If so, why doesn't it have the same effect in high population areas like Otago I wonder.

wet weather kills off the wee ones in the burrows...... west coast weather should do the trick nicely.
Im seeing rabbits around southcanterbury on farms in places not seen before,it goes in cycles and we just happen to be approaching a peak time.
Fair point. But we always have had our weather and we used to have high numbers. Maybe once they are at a certain level the weather/floods do keep them in check.Quote:

I was at Moraki fishing on Tuesday, as we drove through the township we saw heaps of rabbits all over the place but as they said on the news it is too populated with people and housing so unable to shoot there. So sorry Rushy you better put that riffle away, your trip down here would be a waste of time. I do shoot plenty not far from there but I find a trip over to central Otago still takes some beating. If you were planning a trip head over to Central Otago but make sure you get onto a good block or you could end up wasting your time over there as well.
