Taras solo overnight

Got a mid-week leave pass from the Mrs, so decided to check out a new spot in the Tararuas.

Dougie was going to join me, but picked up a couple of last-minute shifts at work, so it became a solo trip.

Set up camp next to the river, had an early dinner, and then went looking for bambi :D

HUNTS course has paid off in huge amounts. Once I had reached the intended area, it did not take me long to find sign.

Glassed the more likely areas, no luck. Once it got a bit darker, I decided to start heading back to camp. On my way, I wanted to have a look thru my scope to see what it looks like in low light. Blow me over, silly spiker trots out 80 yards in front of me :thumbsup: Only presented a texas heartshot, so he got to live another day.

Practised some fire-lighting with damp wood, nice to be out in the boonies

Looks bloody magic. With my six months off work I'll be setting a lot of similar looking camps, can't wait.

Wairarapa or otaki side? Spend a bit of my younger days in the mt holesworth, mikimiki, wiohine totara flats areas, and a few more of the foot hills

Mount Dagg was another area we used to go in from the end of the Kiatuna rd or off the Opaki straights at Mikimiki
